Hi, we are Dave and Rosie. Since 2022, we have been fortunate to spend our summers exploring the UK waters on our boats.
In Summer 2022 we sailed around the UK coastline on our Etap 26i yacht VENTUS. Leaving our home port of Gillingham in Kent, we headed north up the East coast to Inverness, sailed on through the Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness, then amongst the Western Isles of Scotland before passing though the Crinan Canal. Turning southwards and then crossing to Northern Ireland, and sailing down the East coasts of both Northern Ireland and Ireland, the loop back to the UK Mainland was completed at Milford Haven in South West Wales. The weather turned against us mid September, and with Atlantic weather fronts approaching, we organised for Ventus to be lifted from the water to overwinter her in Wales, with the intention of completing our circumnavigation in 2023.
Unexpectedly and totally unplanned, following a visit to the Southampton Boat show on the way home to buy a new dinghy, a fortuitous (or expensive depending on the way you look at it!) conversation led to a series of events and us deciding to purchase a bigger yacht with the intention of living on it for part of the year in the South West near to the Devon based branch of our family!
We sold Ventus through the Boat yard in Wales and became proud owners of SERENDIPITY, a Beneteau Oceanis 36CC Yacht. Having sailed her from Ipswich back to our home port of Gillingham in November 2022 , Dave worked hard over the winter completing essential repairs to make her ship shape and sound to enable us to continue our adventures.
2023 saw us 'turning right' as we left the Thames Estuary in an attempt to travel clockwise along the south coast and to complete our UK circumnavigation to Milford Haven. We had a wonderful summer, albeit challenged by Cornish Sailing Regattas and a fair amount of dubious weather! Managing to get as far as the Helford River by the Lizard, once again the approaching Atlantic storms negated our attempts to cross to the Isles of Scilly and on to the north Cornish coast and Lundy in late August; we about turned and returned to Gillingham , completing the Torquay to Gillingham leg in just 6 days of strenuous sailing ahead of approaching weather systems!
2024 will see shorter adventures as there are other constraints on our lives, but we still hope to complete that circumnavigation one day .....maybe 2025 will be our lucky year!
Do see the blog pages ( via tabs or dots at the top of this page) to read more about our adventures :)
